About Us
In today’s
materialistic world, individualization has become a common disease among the
people and is also a threat to social life. Further, communalism and
regionalism have taken its toll on the society, creating divisions among the
people. These developments defeat the very purposes of human life resulting
in erosion of social values, humanity and brotherhood. The emergence of our
organization is the outcome of all these problems. We pledge to value basic
humanity and furtherance of social harmony among human beings.
Malayalee Samajam, Mohali, a non-political, non-religious, non-profitable
social organization, representing the hopes and aspirations of Keralites
residing in and around Mohali, came into being on May 16, 1999 and became a
registered body in July 1999 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It
has been set up with the objective to spearhead effective interaction
amongst the Malayalees, and for the overall development of human society.
Mohali is a satellite town of Chandigarh that has already found its place in
the global map by virtue of the world-class international cricket stadium
situated here. More than 5,000 Keralites live in and around Mohali. We
represent these Malayalees irrespective of caste, creed and religion. We
provide a common platform to these Malayalees from every walk of life.
For the furtherance of its social and developmental activities, Samajam has
constructed a building to set-up Kerala Bhawan at the 1000 square yard land
allotted in Sector 65 (Near PCA International Cricket Stadium), Mohali by
Punjab Urban Development Authority (presently Greater Mohali Area
Development Authority - GMADA). The building consist of a hall and a stage
with office space in the basement that are in inhabitable shape. Efforts are
still going on to make it good enough to hold professional events as well as
to start the second phase of work in first floor to add more amenities to
it.
